Bereavement Leaves
The CSU Bereavement Leave Policy provides paid time off for the purposes of preparing, attending and/or travelling to a funeral for the employee’s immediate family or close relative.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
CSUF's employee assistance program is available for faculty, staff and their households’ for individual assistance and support designed to help individuals cope with personal challenges that may adversely affect their lives, behavior, and/or performance. Most services are at no cost.
After Death Benefit
Many factors affect death benefits, so it is not possible to know exactly what is payable until CalPERS receives and reviews all of the required documents after a death is reported. Contact CalPERS at (888) 225-7377 or visit Headquarters or Regional Offices to information on the application process.
Beneficiary Designation
Death benefits are paid according to the valid beneficiary designation on file. Benefits may be paid per statutory beneficiary order if there is no designation on file or the designation was revoked. CalPERS will determine who the death benefits are payable to after receipt and review of all the required documents
COBRA Benefits
If health benefits are canceled and the beneficiary is not eligible to continue coverage, beneficiaries may be eligible for COBRA.
Retirement Designation
Death benefits range from a simple return of contributions (plus interest) to a monthly allowance.
