What is Bereavement/Funeral Leave?

 

Bereavement/Funeral Leave is paid leave which is granted to eligible employees for each death of an immediate family member/person or significantly close relative (as defined in the employee’s Collective Bargaining Agreement [CBA]).

 

 

What is the definition of an immediate family member for a represented employee?

 

The immediate family member of a represented employee is defined in the respective CBA.

The immediate family member of a non-represented employee is defined as:

  • The employee’s spouse or domestic partner.

  • The employee’s parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren and siblings (may be biological, adopted, foster, or step).

What is the definition of a significantly close relative for a non-represented employee (confidential, excluded, management personnel plan and executives)?

 

A significantly close relative for a non-represented employee is defined as:

  • The employee’s spouse or domestic partner’s parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and siblings (may be biological, adopted, foster, or step).

  • Any relative residing in the immediate household of the employee, except domestic employees or roomers.

  • Any minor children or incapacitated individuals for whom the employee has legal guardianship or conservatorships.

 

 

How do I apply for a Bereavement/Funeral Leave?

 

Employee needs to complete time off through the Portal by clicking the button, Titan Online, selecting My Absence and Time Management, next Report and View Absences and then complete the form. Employee will need to enter Bereavement as Absence Event, the Beginning and Ending Dates, Absence Duration and Unit Type. Bereavement/Funeral Leave is paid leave.

 

 

Will I need to substantiate my Bereavement absence?

 

You may be requested to provide verification of the need for Bereavement Leave.

 

 

Can I use other leave credits for Bereavement/Funeral time off?

 

Bereavement/Funeral leave may be supplemented by using available leave credits in accordance with bereavement leave provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreementOpens in new window .

 

 

How many paid days will I receive for Bereavement/Funeral Leave?
