Inclusion Champion Certificate Program

The Inclusion Champion Certificate Program (ICCP) is a certificate program that all members of the CSUF community can participate in as a means to learn tools for becoming a 'Champion of Inclusion' on campus.

The Inclusion Champion Certificate Program (ICCP) is open to all members of the CSUF community (students, staff, faculty) that are interested in participating, regardless of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin. This certification is voluntary and provides tools for becoming a ‘Champion of Inclusion’ on campus. The ICCP framework seeks to help participants understand their intersecting identities, foster self-reflection, increase cultural competency and awareness, and offer tangible skills for participants to make a positive impact in their campus roles and beyond.

All participants who complete the coursework will receive a certificate and be honored at the annual Inclusion Champion Gala at the end of the academic year to celebrate their accomplishment and dedication to building belonging and community at CSUF.

New ICCP Registration Process & Course Tracking

We have a new registration process for the Inclusion Champion Certificate program! Whether you’ve already started taking ICCP courses or you are interested in beginning your certification, please fill out this ICCP Participant Registration Form . This will allow us to have a log of all participants who are completing their certification, so we can best support and help you during the certification process.

If you are interested in recertifying your certification, the first step is to register for the recertification program by completing the ICCP Recertification Registration Form.

This does not impact the registration for each course, so please continue to register for the courses you plan to attend through our website. If you have any questions, you can reach out to [email protected] . We appreciate all of your engagement and look forward to seeing you!

We have phased out the Completion Logs so you no longer need to fill out a completion log for your ICCP courses.

To make the process easier for participants, we will internally track your attendance for core and elective courses through the course sign-in forms, but you will be responsible for submitting your two engagement programs and reflection essay (or Action Plan for those doing the Recertification). Once you've completed your core and elective courses, we will send you a link to a form so you can view the courses you've taken and submit your engagement programs and your reflection essay.

You can request a course progress update at any time.

  • Enhance awareness of equity practices.
  • Engage in practical opportunities to expand cultural awareness and understanding.
  • Gain skills necessary to embed community-minded practices in their everyday work.
  • Build community through learning and engagement opportunities.

Program Course Requirements

The ICCP completion requirements are as follows:

  • Completion of all 3 core courses:

    • DEI 101 (1 hour):  The purpose of this training is to provide shared language on what the terms diversity, equity, and inclusion mean and how they can be put into action as a member of the Titan Family to better our community for everyone.
    • Allyship 101 (1.5 hours):  Participants will learn tools and resources on translating their allyship into solidarity and action to help all members of our community.
    • Titans Together - Introduction to Equity Module (1.5 hours):  This foundational module will allow participants to understand equity better, particularly as it relates to CSUF, through the lens of history, self-awareness, and interpersonal relationships.
  • Completion of  5 elective courses:

    • Gender Identity & Pronoun Use (1 hour):   This training will provide foundational information about gender, gender identity, sexuality, attraction, and sex assigned at birth. As well as provide best practices on how to incorporate pronoun usage in your day to day work and interactions that help foster a space for inclusivity and learning.
    • Emotional Intelligence (1 hour):   Emotional intelligence is the awareness and management of your own emotions and others. This training will provide information on ways to develop emotional intelligence and how it applies to leadership and cross-cultural interactions.
    • Unconscious & Implicit Bias in Education (1.5 hours):  In this session participants will learn about unconscious and implicit bias in education and will have an opportunity to reflect on their own biases and how they may appear in their interactions and work.
    • Inclusive Customer Service (1 hour): This training will discuss ways to engage your community members with services that are welcoming to all. Learn how to build cultural fluency and navigate conflict in a professional and inclusive manner that meets the unique needs of each customer.
    • Restorative Justice (1 hour):   Learn about restorative practices and restorative circles to enhance community and build communication and resolution skills.
    • Understanding Microaggressions (1 hour): This session will guide participants through recognizing microaggressions, applying strategies and interventions to respond to microaggressions, and evaluating how to implement this knowledge to foster a positive and safe campus climate.
    • History of Higher Education & the CSU (1.5 hours): In this course, participants will develop a foundational understanding of the history of higher education in the United States, from the colonial roots to the evolution of the modern day university, and the CSU. Participants will reflect on how history has shaped our current educational landscape and where there are gaps and challenges that can be transformed to enhance student success and promote inclusive learning environments.
    • Building Your Mental Health Toolbox (1 hour): In this hands on workshop, participants will be guided through a worksheet where they will reflect on current mental health coping strategies, identify coping strategies they would like to adopt (mental/ emotional regulation, occupational balance, environmental and sensory support, social and relational support, contact list), and make a plan for use. Participants will also have an opportunity to build their own tangible mental health toolbox from provided supplies.

Participants can attend the electives offered by the Office of Engagement and Belonging (OEB) or courses that align with the ICCP framework offered by other university partners.

  • Reflection essay

    • Submit a reflection essay answering the following prompts with at least 600 words per prompt:
      • How has the knowledge you gained from ICCP impacted your personal and professional life?
      • How do you plan to utilize the knowledge and experiences you gained from ICCP to improve belonging and community at CSUF?

Tracking Your Progress

We have phased out the Completion Logs so you no longer need to fill out a completion log for your ICCP courses.

To make the process easier for participants, we will internally track your attendance for core and elective courses through the course sign-in forms, but you will be responsible for submitting your two engagement programs and reflection essay (or Action Plan for those doing the Recertification). Once you've completed your core and elective courses, we will send you a link to a form so you can view the courses you've taken and submit your engagement programs and your reflection essay.

You can request a course progress update at any time.

ICCP Recertification

ICCP Recertification  will be required after two years have passed since graduating from ICCP.

The objective of Recertification is to provide continued equity and community minded learning and facilitate the transition from education to advocacy; from a focus on self to a focus on community.

Recertification can be achieved by completing the following requirements:

  • Completion of the courses:
    • DEI 200 - Intersectionality (1.5 hours):   Learn about intersectionality – a lens through which we examine the complex interplay of social identities within the frameworks of systemic power. This session aims to empower participants with a deeper understanding of how various aspects of their identities intersect and influence their experiences in society.
    • Activating Your Leadership with Values (1 hour):  Values based leadership is good leadership in practice. Reflect on your values and how you can incorporate them into your leadership and role on campus.
  • Participation in two additional engagement opportunities
  • Submission of an Action Plan:
    • Use the Action Plan Template located in the Recertification Completion Log.
      • Develop three goals related to your work and/or life that strive to achieve positive equity and community related change. For each goal, write out the action steps you will take to accomplish your goal. Include how you will hold yourself accountable to these goals and how you will know if you have achieved your goal successfully.
      • Submission: To make the process easier for participants, we will internally track your attendance for core and elective courses through the course sign-in forms, but you will be responsible for submitting your two engagement programs and Action Plan. Once you've completed your core and elective courses, we will send you a link to a form so you can view the courses you've taken and submit your engagement programs and your reflection essay. You can request a course progress update at any time.

Recertification lasts for another two years after receipt. Every two years after, to maintain Recertification, a participant must take part in one elective and two engagement opportunities.

Inclusion Champion Gala

ICCP and Recertification graduates will be honored at the annual Inclusion Champion Gala at the end of the academic year and are encouraged to continue attending a rotating schedule of courses and engagement opportunities.
