October is Conflict Resolution Month! Hosted by the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Programs (DIEP), this month will feature events, activities, and workshops from departments across the CSUF campus to showcase the importance of community and conflict resolution. #CSUFConResMonth

Coffee, Community, and Conflict Resolution Month Kick-Off Event

October is Conflict Resolution Month and to kick off a month filled with presentations and activities hosted by various campus departments, come celebrate with coffee, light refreshments, and conversation! You can stop by for 10 minutes, half an hour, or spend the hour with us engaging in conversation with CSUF community members. Different conversation questions will be provided and we will engage in conflict prevention/community building in the Staff Development Center (CP-207) space!

Movie Night:   Mean Girls

In collaboration with Associated Students Inc., we will be screening Mean Girls to kick off Conflict Resolution Month! All students, faculty and staff are invited to bring their friends and family to enjoy the movie and some free food provided by Crepes Bonaparte and participate in activities such as writing in the "Nice Book."

"Doors" open on Tuffy Lawn at 6:30pm and the movie will begin at 7pm.   Free entry!

Why is conflict prevalent over social media, email, and other forms of technology? What are some ways to resolve conflict online? Participants will walk away with strategies on interacting with others online while learning some of the recent and relevant research regarding the intersections of technology and conflict.

Community Building Circle: Conflict Prevention  presented by Leanna Jasek-Rysdahl, Resolution Education Manager, DIEP

In this one-hour session, campus members will have the opportunity to build community while talking about a theme or topic.

The circle will be grounded in restorative practices and are intended to foster belonging and connection within the group. Please attend if you are interested in the topic, interested in learning more about how to use restorative practices in your roles, would like to build or foster community at CSUF, or just want to meet new people!

The theme is “Conflict Prevention" We will explore questions such as "How do conflict prevention and resolution interact?" "What are ways to prevent conflict" "How can conflict prevention inform conflict resolution?"

**You can attend both the in person and virtual circles! While they are the same topic, there will be different questions and conversations.

The campus Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation (DHR) Administrator, Blair Miles and Resolution Education Manager, Leanna Jasek-Rysdahl, will present on ways all campus community members can avoid receiving a DHR complaint. This includes information about what the office does, how to communicate clearly, and how to navigate the DHR office.

Words Have Power: Addressing Gender/Sexuality-Based Microaggressions   presented by Title IX & Gender Equity

The session will review the importance of preventing and addressing intentional and unintentional comments and actions that may impact individuals’ sense of safety and belonging related to their sex, gender, and sexual orientation. Participants will leave the session with new skills and specific tools they can use to identify and address gender/sexuality-based microaggressions.

Coffee, Community, COSTUMES, and Conflict Resolution Month Final Celebration

To celebrate the month filled with presentations and activities hosted by various campus departments, come celebrate with coffee, light refreshments, and conversation (and since it is Halloween, feel free to dress up in a costume!).

You can stop by for 10 minutes, half an hour, or spend the hour with us engaging in conversation with CSUF community members. Different conversation questions about the month and conflict resolution will be provided and we will engage in conflict prevention/community building in the Staff Development Center (CP-207) space!

Sticker Design Contest

Submit an image that is originally designed/created by you that expresses what conflict resolution or conflict prevention means to you. Extra points if you submit a design that also includes CSUF colors.

The winner will have their sticker design printed and stickers will be distributed at the Staff Development Center (CP-207). When you submit your image, please include a 3-4 sentence description of the image you designed. Submit entry to   diversity@fullerton.eduOpens in new window .
