The CSU Board of Trustees and Chancellor’s Office issued a comprehensive Employee Background Check Policy effective August 3, 2015.

Prior to any offer of employment, new and rehire employees at all CSU campuses, including auxiliary employees, will undergo a background check. This policy requires background checks to be conducted on all final candidates before they are offered the position.

New faculty members are allowed to begin work before the background check is completed only in the limited circumstances where university operations will be adversely affected because it would not be otherwise possible to offer a class to students. The offer of employment will state that it is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check and may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and/or it was discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. However, this exception will not be permitted where the position is one in which a background check is required by law or is designated as sensitive.
