CSUF HRDI Receives the Inclusion Award from CUPA-HR
The College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) has presented the 2014 Inclusion Cultivates Excellence Award to California State University, Fullerton. The award recognizes institutional initiatives and programs that impact the promotion of inclusive and equitable workplace practices, particularly those that bring about cultural change throughout an organization. Included with the award is a $6,000 contribution to CSUF's endowment.
From the beginning of her appointment, President Garcia has placed emphasis on diversity and inclusion at CSUF in relation to the university's student population, faculty and workforce. To achieve this goal, she instituted a reorganization of the human resources administrative unit, one that encompasses both faculty and staff personnel services, including elevating the head of HR to a vice presidential level and a seat in the President's cabinet, a first in the California State University system. In its initial nine months of operation, HRDI has made significant progress toward advancing diversity in its workforce, including:
- Diversity Recruitment Training
- E-Recruit for Faculty
- Campus Climate Survey
- Entrance Survey and New Employee Orientation
"Thanks to President Garcia's commitment to creating a more diverse and inclusive workspace, we've been able to accomplish more in nine months than many organizations do in five years," says Lori Gentles, VP of the new Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion division. "Instead of talking things to death, we're actually doing, and I think the campus community is really beginning to understand the benefit that is derived from the breath of views and the unique contributions that a diverse workforce brings to our university."
