Unpaid Personal Leave 

Unpaid personal leaves are available for eligible faculty for a specific purpose and length of time, such as one (1) semester, or one (1) year, or shorter periods of time. A personal leave of absence without pay may be for purposes of unpaid sick leave, parental, family care leaves, or other purposes of a personal nature.

If you are a faculty member requesting a personal leave of absence: 

  • Contact Griselda G. Marquez in Academic Human Resources at 657-278-5187 to discuss your options. 
  • Complete the  Request for Formal Leave of Absence application. 
    • The application can be found here: http://hr.fullerton.edu/forms/ under the benefits tab.
    • The application will go to your department and Dean’s office for signature and is then sent to Academic HR, Attn: Griselda G. Marquez.
    • If the requested leave is Personal in nature and not related to a parental or medical leave, no other documentation is needed.

 

Unpaid Professional Leave 

Professional leaves of absence without pay may be requested by an employee and may be granted by the President or the President’s designee. A professional leave of absence without pay may be for the purposes of research, advanced study, professional development, or other purposes of benefit to the university. Such leaves shall be considered totally voluntary, and for the purposes of workers’ compensation, the time involved shall not be considered time worked. 

If you are a faculty member requesting a professional leave of absence: 

  • Contact Griselda G. Marquez in Academic Human Resources at x 5187 to discuss your options. 
  • Complete the  Request for Formal Leave of Absence application. 
    • The application can be found here: http://hr.fullerton.edu/forms/ under the benefits tab.
    • The application will go to your department and Dean’s office for signature and is then sent to Academic HR, Attn: Griselda G. Marquez.
    • Please include a description of the project or work that will be performed while on the professional leave.
