California State University, Fullerton is a large, comprehensive, urban university with more than 4,100 full-and part-time faculty and staff members, and a diverse student body of 40,235 enrolled in Fall 2016. The university offers a broad spectrum of degree programs in liberal arts and sciences as well as applied and professional fields with 57 at the baccalaureate level and 52 graduate programs including a doctorate in education and doctor of nursing practice. Part-Time Pool

The department invites applications for its Part-Time Faculty pool to teach courses on a part-time basis.

The Department of English, Comparative Literature and Linguistics plays a major role in contributing to the general education experiences of students in humanities and the social sciences while also serving more than 500 majors at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Most courses are three-units per semester, typically offered in a lecture-discussion mode. Areas of Specialization
We are seeking highly motivated, well-organized individuals to teach in the following subject areas:

Qualifications
Candidates for introductory courses must have at least a Master’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum of the Department of English, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics. A Ph.D. or extensive professional experience is required for teaching upper-division courses (300- or 400-level). Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching. An ability to work effectively with a broad mix of student ages and students from culturally diverse backgrounds is also highly desirable.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.  Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

Academic Calendar
The needs for part-time faculty are greatest in the Fall and Spring semesters. The fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the spring term runs from the beginning of February through the end of May. On rare occasions, a department or program may utilize part-time faculty for teaching during one of the Summer Session segments.

Appointment and Salary
All part-time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers, under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association. Initial appointments are for one semester only. Salaries vary depending upon qualifications and experience. Personnel Reviews
Regular performance evaluations of part-time lecturers are made by the department according to the terms of the approved Department Personnel Standards and the University Policy Statement (UPS 210.060). Positive reviews are based upon written teaching philosophy, student ratings of instruction, course materials, and in-class observations made by a full-time faculty member. In addition to classroom instruction, part time faculty are required to provide opportunities for student consultation outside of the regular class hours; on-line discussion periods or e-mail contacts shall not be a complete substitute for face-to-face consultation periods.
