Director of Wind Band Studies
The College of the Arts’ School of Music at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Music, Director of Wind Band Studies. The faculty member will supervise, lead, and direct the Wind Band Studies, University Wind Symphony, and Symphonic Winds. Maintain and develop the graduate conducting studio, coordinate all wind program activities and perform all aspects of recruiting, program outreach, and budget administration. The position also requires working closely with wind and percussion applied faculty and music education faculty to promote positive relationships with regional high school and community college wind music programs and work collaboratively with performance division coordinators and conductors of the Orchestral, Jazz, Keyboard and Vocal programs.
The successful candidate will advise students and teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in instrumental methods, instrumental literature, conducting pedagogy, music education, and additional music courses in accordance with individual areas of expertise and departmental needs.
Positive tenure and promotion decisions require excellent teaching, service to the School of Music, University, and community, a record of substantive scholarly and/or creative work that reflects a regional, national, or international profile as distinguished wind conductor and educator, and/or peer-reviewed publications and maintain participation in relevant professional organizations.
- Terminal Degree; preferred DMA or PhD; ABD’s may apply but must show evidence that the degree will be completed by appointment date;
- Proven record of success in leading a successful wind band program;
- Proven record of success in wind ensemble conducting at the university level;
- Evidence of successful teaching in the classroom and/or in applied music;
- Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching;
- Ability to work and interact effectively with a wide a culturally diverse range of students, colleagues, and community; and
- A background check (including criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
- Earned Doctoral Degree
- 5years experience in leading a successful wind and program.
- Full-time conducting and teaching experience at the High School or University level.
Rank and Salary
This is a full time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Salary is competitive and commensurate with rank, experience, and qualifications. Salary is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases.
