The Department of History at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Modern European History, excluding Britain, France, Russia, and Germany with a preference for a specialty in Eastern Europe or the Mediterranean World. The primary professional responsibilities of this instructional faculty member are: teaching undergraduate world history survey courses; general education courses in Modern Europe; advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in their historical fields in Modern European History; as well as courses in historical writing, theory, and methods. These responsibilities generally include: participation in department, college, university, and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. Positive tenure and promotion decisions require excellent teaching, research, peer-reviewed publications, and participation in the broader disciplinary community.
- Ph.D. in History by August 2019
- Academic preparation and ability to teach in the areas mentioned above
- Familiarity with recognized best practices in teaching and an interest in using and developing innovative instructional strategies
- The ability to interact effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students
- Scholarship leading to publication and potential for external funding
- Language competency appropriate to the respective research specialization
- Experience with public history
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Rank and Salary
The positions will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track. Salary is competitive and commensurate with rank, qualifications, and experience. Salary is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Moving expenses and start-up funds may be available. Additional teaching in summer and intersession is often available.
